The Université temps libre invites you to a lecture given by Mr Yves Pedrono, lecturer.
If Chaplin was the most famous character in the history of cinema, he was also a genius, as The Great Dictator shows. Having conceived the film in 1938, in an international context where Hitler enjoyed a very favourable opinion, he showed exceptional lucidity in highlighting the pathological and/or nightmarish aspects of the Führer's personality. He accurately described his relationships with others, revealing him to be a self-centred megalomaniac and a comedian at heart. He foretold the peril and, like many geniuses, was widely misunderstood, exposing himself to foolish and irresponsible criticism.
