Newfoundland Theatre Festival From 18 to 26 June 2026

Every summer, the Château de Terre-Neuve in Fontenay-le-Comte becomes one of the most beautiful open-air stages in the Vendée. For several evenings, actors, directors and spectators gather in the courtyard of the château to experience a theatrical adventure out of time.

Unmissable classics, contemporary creations and great emotions follow one another in an exceptional heritage setting. A unique cultural event where words resonate under the stars.

Life-size theatre

Here, the plays don’t just take place behind a red curtain. They come to life in the courtyard of a Renaissance château, under the June sky.

Meeting place

Parking

Large free car parks 800 metres away: place Viète, place du Marché aux Herbes and place Thiverçay.

The Château de Terre-Neuve car park is accessible only to PRMs and officials.

  • How do I book my seats?

    Bookings can be made online or by telephone. The ticket office generally opens 2 to 3 months before the festival.

    Be warned: some performances sell out very quickly every year… so don’t wait to book your evening!

  • Are the shows outdoors?

    Yes, the Newfoundland Festival performances take place in the courtyard of the château, outdoors.

  • Can I bring my family?

    Yes, several shows are suitable for families, depending on the performances chosen.

  • What happens if it rains?

    Performances will continue in the event of rain.

    However, for safety reasons, shows may be cancelled in the event of strong winds or thunderstorms. There is no alternative indoor venue, but spectators will be reimbursed in the event of cancellation.
