Organ and Music in Vouvant

Vouvant Little City of Music

Since 2020, Vouvant, a medieval town in the Vendée, has had an organ built by the Yves Fossaert organ factory in its Romanesque church, which is listed as a Historic Monument, thanks to the initiative of the Orgue & Musique à Vouvant association.

From 17 May to 29 November 2026, the 6th season of concerts will be held on the great Fossaert organ in Vouvant, with no fewer than 14 performances in all.

The organ festival runs from 9 July to 27 August 2026, every Thursday at 7pm (8 concerts).

Tickets for the organ festival concerts are now available!

The project for the construction of the organ in Vouvant

Among the first points to be defined when building an organ, certain aspects are decisive: the location, the sound aesthetics of the instrument and the search for the right proportion.

The location proposed and accepted by the clergy and the Monuments Historiques is ideal for this church: an instrument that is integrated into the parish community and also allows for a real relationship with the public during concerts.

The choice ofsound aesthetics, resolutely oriented towards a romantic and symphonic organ, was not only a preference of the commissioner, but also in keeping with the part of the building where it is located, rebuilt between 1872 and 1885.

A music project funded by donations!

The Vouvant organ, built in 2020 by the Manufacture d’orgues Yves Fossaert and inaugurated in 2021, was 85% financed by more than 740 private donations from all over France (53 départements) and abroad: Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the USA and Hong Kong, and 15% by subsidies from the Département de la Vendée, the Région des Pays de la Loire and Crédit Agricole Atlantique-Vendée.

The instrument will have been financed in 3 years. This is exceptional on two counts: the speed with which it was financed, and the fact that 85% of the funding for an organ built in a municipal building that is a listed historic monument came from private donations – a first in France!

In addition to its annual concert season with the Summer Organ Festival, which welcomes the greatest French and foreign organists, the Heritage Days concerts, the residencies of organ classes from regional and national conservatoires during the Plant Festival and the Music Festival, and the mini-concerts at the Christmas Market, the Orgue & Musique à Vouvant association pursues an active policy of recordings and videos.

The concert seasons are supported by generous donors and subsidies from the Conseil départemental de la Vendée, the Communauté de communes Pays de Fontenay-Vendée, the Commune of Vouvant and Crédit Agricole Atlantique-Vendée.

Prepare your mission!
