Lecture by Olivier Sauzereau
Embark on a fascinating investigation into the great ports of yesteryear!
The Département de la Vendée invites you to a fascinating lecture by Olivier Sauzereau at the Vendéthèque in La Châtaigneraie.

What if the quays of our major ports were hiding a forgotten treasure?

Based on his book Le marin, la montre et l'observatoire (The sailor, the watch and the observatory), Olivier Sauzereau will take you on an investigation into the astronomical observatories set up in ports in the 18th and 19th centuries.

The fruit of more than twenty years of archive research, this fascinating reconstruction evokes a little-known department of the Navy, responsible for checking the marine watches on military and merchant ships - an essential link in the chain of navigation and control of the seas.

Part historical quest, part scientific intrigue, The Sailor, the Watch and the Observatory is told like a detective story.
This captivating tale brings the mystery of the "forgotten observatories" to life before our very eyes... and makes us irresistibly eager to discover all their secrets.

All ages. Registration required.
