MONSIEUR PERRICHON'S JOURNEY
Adapted and directed by Frédérique LAZARINI
Assistant director Lydia NICAUD
Starring : Cédric COLAS, Emmanuelle GALABRU, Hugo GIVORT, Arthur GUEZENNEC, Messaline PAILLET and Guillaume VEYRE.
This show is deliberately placed under the sign of fantasy: in reference to Tati or Cocteau, the objects come to life, sometimes as if invested. We also see a statue talking in a garden, and loudspeakers in the station giving moral lessons to travellers.
Like "a jovial entomologist", Labiche always pinpointed and dissected the character of the 19th century bourgeois, who was both his favourite character and his audience. Perrichon is not ridiculous, he is blind (it's almost poignant), he pursues quests, he has ambitions to surpass (admittedly clumsily) his own and escape the everyday boredom of his world. And, above all, he has real feelings.
Labiche's play is closely interwoven between the adventure of a first tourist trip, gliding along on a witty and humorous line, and a deeper inner journey, an unexpected movement of the soul, full of wisdom and nobility. When it's time to say goodbye, it's a new man who leaves the stage.
