2 flash visits to discover the cemetery and the symbols and history associated with the funeral home
At 3.30pm, discover the town's burial heritage in a new light with the "Discover the cemetery" tour.
Through the history of cemetery plots, the organisation of confessional spaces and the rites and customs that are expressed there, this walk invites you to read the cemetery as an open book on collective memory. It's a unique opportunity to better understand how traditions, cultural diversity and heritage issues come together at the heart of this place of remembrance.
At 5pm, plunge into the heart of funerary art, where symbols, materials and remarkable tombs in the cemetery will be revealed to you.
This stroll will introduce you to how to 'read' a funerary monument: recognise the materials, decipher the epitaphs and understand the symbolic codes of the tombs. You'll then be surprised by some of the more unusual graves, including those of Octave de Rochebrune, Jean Chevolleau and the so-called "Napoleonic" tomb. An invitation to discover the cemetery as an artistic, memorial and deeply human space.
