Abou Lagraa & Ballet de l'Opéra de Tunis - as part of the TendanSe festival. Discovered twenty-five years ago at the Maison de la danse, Abou Lagraa never ceases to ignite audiences with his fluid, sensual movement, a generous blend of hip hop and contemporary.
His new work Carmen is inspired by Georges Bizet's opera, and brings together thirteen young performers from the Tunis Opera Ballet as part of a Franco-Tunisian Mediterranean cultural bridge.
In the heart of a poetic, highly refined set design, he reinvents a Carmen who refuses to die, embodied by both men and women whom he wants to be equal and united, driven by the same desire for freedom.
Capturing every movement of the soul, Abou Lagraa composes a universe shrouded in his oriental origins, creating not "one" but "many" Carmens, for we are all Carmen.
Lyrical and sumptuous, the dance is led by this young ballet that brings out the multiple figures of Bizet's masterpiece with ardour and sensuality. The 150th anniversary of his death was celebrated in 2025.
