The Abbaye de Nieul-sur-L'autise is organising a one-day course to discover the art of tea.
Spend a day discovering the art of tea, its history, customs and tasting.
Researchers have identified remains of tea in a bowl from a tomb in China dating back to around 400 BC. Tea was originally used to flavour the water that was boiled before drinking. It was immediately appreciated for its therapeutic virtues, such as relieving fatigue, strengthening the will and reviving eyesight. Introduced into Europe in the early 17th century, tea is now the most widely drunk beverage in the world, second only to water.
