The Ville d'art et d'histoire department is offering two themed flash tours of the Notre-Dame cemetery, to highlight the wealth of funerary art that bears witness to the habits and customs of an era, like the illustrious women of our town who are buried there.
Meet us at the entrance to the cemetery for a tour of the filles de l'Union Chrétienne, a convent founded in Fontenay-le-Comte in 1680. Historically, the nuns were responsible for teaching girls from good families, then, following the secularization laws, the congregation became a care establishment. Several dozen nuns are now buried at Notre-Dame.
