Vouvant Plunge into the heart of the medieval city

Listed as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France® and with the Petites Cités de Caractère® label, Vouvant takes you back to the heart of the Middle Ages. The Mélusine Tower, the ramparts, the Romanesque church and the legend of the fairy Mélusine: here, every alleyway plunges you back into history.

The Mélusine Tower Symbol of the medieval city!

The last vestige of the Lusignan castle, the Tour Mélusine dominates the village of Vouvant and the Mère valley.

You can discover it :

Les Remparts Guardians of the village!

Built from the XIIᵉ century onwards, the fortified enclosure once encircled the entire medieval town of Vouvant. It bears witness to the major strategic and military role played by Vouvant in the Middle Ages.

As you follow the line of Vouvant’s ramparts, you’ll enjoy fine views over the village and the valley, while discovering the ancient remains of towers and gates, including the Porte de la Poterne, the last medieval gateway still visible today. A life-size immersion in the city’s defensive past.

Notre-Dame church Between Romanesque art and legend!

The Romanesque church of Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption, founded in the XIᵉ century, is one of Vouvant’s heritage gems. Its portal blends Romanesque art with Gothic additions. On one capital, the fairy Mélusine is revealed in the form of a double-tailed mermaid. Don’t miss the discovery of the 12thᵉ century crypt, steeped in mystery.

The church is a lively place: art exhibitions in the nave and concerts by the Vouvant Organ Festival punctuate the summer season, bringing together heritage and artistic creations.

Guided tours of Vouvant Summer of heroes!

Every summer, Vouvant reveals its secrets on guided tours designed to take you on a journey back in time. Follow Ludovic, your guide, and set off on an assault on the medieval town.

Complete immersion, for different lengths of time: to each his own quest, to each his own visit.

Vouvant, the city of artists

A town full of music

Every summer, the church of Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption vibrates to the rhythm of the Vouvant Organ Festival, organised by the Orgue et Musique à Vouvant association. The concerts, with their remarkable acoustics, combine music and heritage.

Painters, craftsmen and contemporary talent

Vouvant Village de Peintres offers exhibitions in the nave of the church throughout the season. Take a stroll through the narrow streets and discover the painters, sculptors and craftspeople who bring Vouvant’s creative soul to life.
