Between gentle hills, sunken lanes and landscapes shaped by man, the Vendée bocage can be discovered step by step. Here, walking becomes a lively exploration: hedgerows, mills, quarries, ponds, megalithic sites, villages and panoramas follow one another to reveal an authentic nature full of character.

With 25 local loops, the GRP de Mélusine, the long-distance Chemin des Châtaignes trail and unusual routes like the Chemin aux Étoiles, you can discover the bocage step by step.

Our local loops There's a path for everyone to explore!

From sunken lanes to ridge lines, the 25 local loops in the Vendée bocage reveal a wide variety of landscapes. Hike up the hill of Moulins, explore the Cheffois quarries, walk along the Rochereau reservoir, the Étruyère lake or the Ripaud nurseries . .. And don’t forget the amazing Chemin aux Étoiles, where you can walk on the scale of the universe!

Before setting off to explore the paths of the Vendée bocage, make sure you have the “Randonnées Terre d’étoiles – bocage” map !

Designed for curious walkers, it lists the 25 local loops, with distances, times, levels of difficulty and starting points for each. It also helps you to get a better idea of the area, spot the sites to discover and link up several routes as you go along.

Two main routes for keen explorers

The GRP de Mélusine

The GRP de Mélusine offers a long-distance route through the Vendée bocage, linking sunken lanes, villages and rolling countryside. It also leads into the Mervent-Vouvant forest, extending the walk into one of the largest natural areas in the region.

The Chestnut Trail

The Chemin des Châtaignes is a 76km long trail, ideal for an itinerant holiday. With 4 possible starting points, it links up a number of local loops and passes through several villages, so you can hike from village to village to the rhythm of the bocage.
