3 heroic reasons to take the plunge!

Walk in the footsteps of two giants

You’re not visiting a traditional museum: you’re entering their birthplaces, where it all began.

Understand history differently

Between politics, war, convictions and personal life, you will discover complete men, far from clichés.

Experience an immersion on a human scale

Two houses, one street separating them… and an intense journey through the 20th century.

Your adventure in detail

Two destinies, one starting point

It all begins in Mouilleron-Saint-Germain, a village in the Vendée bocage. Here, just a few steps from each other, two houses were the birthplaces of two major figures of the 20th century.

On one side, Georges Clemenceau. A key politician, nicknamed “the Father of Victory”.
On the other, Jean de Lattre de Tassigny. Marshal of France, a key player in the Second World War.

Your mission? To understand how these simple places gave birth to such destinies.

In the shoes of Clemenceau, the man of a thousand facets

You enter the house where Clemenceau was born. An old house that has been transformed over the years and restored to immerse you in his world.

You soon realise that Clemenceau was much more than just a war leader.

Here, three major facets are revealed:

  • The politician, committed for more than fifty years
  • The man of passions, curious about the world, a writer and art lover
  • The man attached to the Vendée region, deeply linked to his roots.

Thanks to interactive and multimedia displays, you can navigate between past and present. Clemenceau’s ideas still resonate today. Nothing is set in stone. Everything raises questions.

And then there’s the garden. A living space, inspired by his tastes and travels. Between the vegetable garden, the orchard and the Asian inspirations, you almost enter into his intimacy. A moment suspended, far from the tumult of history.

A plunge into the world of De Lattre

A change of atmosphere. In the house where de Lattre was born, you enter a 19th century bourgeois house. Everything has remained in place. The furniture, the décor, the atmosphere.

Accompanied by a guide, you explore each room:

  • The grand salon and its social codes
  • The dining room, open to dignitaries
  • The kitchen, witness to a lively home life
  • The bedrooms, including the one where Jean de Lattre was born

Each room tells the story of an era, an upbringing and a way of life. You will discover the childhood of a future Marshal, in a very real setting. Nothing is overly reconstructed. Here, everything is authentic. And that changes everything.

The garden extends the experience: magnolia, roses, camellias… A peaceful setting to end the visit.

The mission continues… outside the walls

In the village, the story continues. Information panels line the streets and extend your exploration. Here, a detail about Clemenceau’s political involvement. Here, an anecdote about De Lattre’s military career.

And if you still have some energy left, take your mission a step further. Head for the Colline des Moulins. Up there, the view opens up. The landscape grows in height… and so does your understanding of the area. A little further on, the de Lattre memorial awaits you. A powerful place, punctuated by a photo exhibition, which adds another dimension to your discovery.

  • Who was Jean de Lattre de Tassigny?

Jean de Lattre de Tassigny (1889-1952) was a French military officer who became Marshal of France.
