Escape to The most beautiful corners of nature
in Fontenay-le-Comte

  • 106133

In Fontenay-le-Comte, you don’t have to go far to breathe.
Nature is everywhere: in the parks in the centre, along the river, in every neighbourhood. Here, you can go from a heritage site to a spot of greenery in just a few minutes.

Want to slow down, take a walk, have a picnic or let the kids run around? You’ve come to the right place.

Baron Park Fontenay-le-Comte's green lung

It’s a classic… and with good reason.

Right in the heart of the city, Baron Park has everything we love:

  • tall trees for shade
  • paths for strolling
  • places to move around or relax
  • breathtaking views over the historic centre

But it’s not just a park.
It’s also a site steeped in history, with the remains of the old feudal castle, a tower, ramparts… and even a medieval garden.

A bonus that makes all the difference: the Baron Aventure Park, with its nets suspended between the trees, is the perfect place for a magical family day out.

In the park: benches, picnic tables, children’s play area, fitness trail, petanque area, toilets.

The Town Hall garden Soft, elegant fashion

A change of atmosphere.

The Town Hall garden is all about calm and charm:

  • an English-style landscaped garden
  • a pond with swans and a small bridge
  • remarkable trees (sequoia, ginkgo biloba, large plane trees)

It’s the perfect spot for a quiet break, a snack or a stroll with young children (games suitable for toddlers).

A little detail that counts: you’re walking through a place steeped in history, the former Cordeliers convent, where François Rabelais stayed.

The banks of the Vendée Crossing Fontenay-le-Comte

On foot or by bike, let yourself be guided along the river Vendée, the source of Fontenay-le-Comte‘s development.

Two routes, two atmospheres:

  • The Transfontenaysienne takes you from the heart of the town to the allotment gardens and the Pissotte bridge, in a more intimate, green atmosphere.
  • The Voie Verte, along the Plaine des Sports, is an easy route that’s accessible to all, with a great view over the countryside… and the possibility of extending as far as Velluire, in the Marais Poitevin.

Along the way, you’ll find picnic tables, benches, deckchairs, a fitness trail and much more.

Whether you’re looking for a leisurely stroll, a family outing or a jog along the water’s edge, there’s something for everyone.

The Seillot valley Unexpected escape

Just a few minutes from the centre, you’re in for a totally different experience. Wilder, quieter.

You can discover the Vallée du Seillot by following the Transfontenaysienne. Step by step, the town fades into the background, giving way to a natural area where you quickly forget your surroundings.

It’s the ideal place to take a quiet stroll, get away from it all and enjoy a spot of nature in its own right.

With benches and picnic tables.

Exploration continues Other parks to discover

Parc Espierre, located in the town centre, offers a friendly setting with wooden sculptures, children’s games, a table tennis table and an area for picnics or football.

In the Charzais district, the Andrée and Edgar Aubert park offers a pleasant environment with a fountain, a small stream and facilities to prolong the moment, including a barbecue area.

Finally, the Jardin des Jacobins, also in the town centre, is a great place to stop for a while, with its benches, children’s games and petanque area.

So many simple, accessible places, perfect for a green break at any time of day.
