Concert « Petits Motets »

Les Arts Florissants instrumental ensemble: Paul AGNEW - conductor Sarah FLEISS * - soprano Georgia BURASHKO * - mezzo-soprano Bastien RIMONDI * - tenor * Winners of the Jardin des Voix A major figure of the Italian Baroque, Alessandro Scarlatti occupied a central place in the musical life of his time. Between Rome and Naples, where he served the Chapel Royal for many years, he produced an exceptionally prolific output, tackling all genres with a formal rigour and melodic elegance that have become models. Much of his output is devoted to sacred music, in which the ancient style inherited from Palestrina coexists with a modern concertante style inspired by opera. Composed in Naples, probably at the end of his life, the Stabat Mater is a perfect illustration of this new language, combining vocal virtuosity and intense expressivity - a work that left a lasting impression on Pergolesi. The Salve Regina, structured in contrasting numbers, alternates arias and duets in bold harmonic writing, while the Quae es ista magnifies the sensuality and spiritual depth of the biblical text. Already familiar with Scarlatti's sacred works, Les Arts Florissants here continue their exploration through these motets, revealing a singular style and an essential filiation in the history of Italian music. Conducted by Paul Agnew, this concert brings together three exceptional young singers from recent editions of Jardin des Voix, the international baroque academy of Les Arts Florissants: American soprano Sarah Fleiss, Canadian mezzo-soprano Georgia Burashko and French tenor Bastien Rimondi.
