Description
Japanese storytelling show for all the family, as part of the "Contes en scène" festival
Issun Bôshi features two heroes from traditional Japanese tales: Tatsuro, a spirited young fisherman who defies Death until it forgets all about him, and Issun Bôshi, a thumb-sized boy whose daring puts a terror-spreading ogre to flight. The old man and the little fellow have no idea of the many ways in which river water can flow.
During her visits to Japan, Edwige read, saw and heard several versions of traditional tales and took classes in Nihon Buyo, a Kabuki dance in which the fan is an essential accessory. Edwige was inspired by this dance and the fan games used by rakugo actors to create the images, characters and objects that inhabit these stories.
