Located in southern Vendée, equidistant between the Loire and the Médoc, PRIEURE LA CHAUME is first and foremost a rather crazy gamble! To create, from scratch, a vineyard on a piece of land where there were no vines, on a former island in the Poitevin marshes.
Natural wines and wines from the past
With no vines on the land and ongoing efforts to increase the estate's biodiversity, it was a natural step for us, some fifteen years ago, to have all the wines we produce certified organic. Our ambition to restore this unique terroir to the production of wines for ageing, which we poetically call "wines of memory", has led us to continue our efforts to produce wines of greater purity. We started three years ago, and after some trial and error, we now vinify all our wines using the Vins Méthode Nature (VMN) method, with a commitment to producing wines that are pure, singular and lively, but whose straightforwardness and precision are the guarantees of longevity so characteristic of great wines. It's a challenge to rediscover the essence of the grape and the rich flavours of wines that improve with age.
Saturdays open to the public. Rest of the week by appointment. (Closed on Sundays)
