The Agence de Voyages Imaginaires is back! With his penchant for reimagining classics, Philippe Car takes on Molière’s *Don Juan*. First performed in 1665, it is one of the most scandalous works of classical theatre. Through his portrayal of an insatiable libertine, Molière examines morality, religion and social conventions, whilst offering a scathing critique of power, hypocrisy and male dominance.
It is this legendary text that the theatre company L’Agence de voyages imaginaires revisits in a resolutely contemporary production.
As soon as they enter the auditorium, the audience is confronted with a direct question: “Is there a Don Juan in the house? ’ — a direct invitation that immediately transforms the performance into a mirror of our times.
Remaining faithful to Molière’s language, the company preserves all its power and musicality, whilst anchoring it in the present through the actors’ performances, the set design and its artistic choices. Don Juan is no longer merely a character: he becomes a figure who is still very much alive, revealed in our behaviour, our silences and our contradictions.
Neither comfortable nor uncontroversial, this adaptation unsettles, challenges and stimulates critical thinking. A joyful and irreverent take on this great classic!
After the show, the performers from the Agence de voyages Imaginaires invite you to
their ‘Tables Nomades’ for a gourmet and musical cabaret. A chance to extend
the experience and chat with your neighbours! Booking essential.
