Description

An event organised as part of the European Heritage Days by the ‘Ville d’art et d’histoire’ department in Fontenay-le-Comte.
Take a look behind the scenes of local government with a guided tour of the Town Hall. The history of the Town Hall dates back to 1471, when King Louis XI granted the town municipal status. The first town hall was then built near the Pont des Sardines. The current Town Hall, meanwhile, has been housed since 1894 in an elegant bourgeois mansion built in 1864 on the ruins of the former Cordeliers convent. As you wander through the building, you’ll discover iconic spaces such as the wedding hall and the Mayor’s office, the cradle of local democracy. *************************** Meet at the Town Hall from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm and 3.00 pm to 6.00 pm Free entry
