Description

An event organised as part of the European Heritage Days by the ‘Ville d’art et d’histoire’ department of Fontenay-le-Comte.
The Gobin Mansion, known as the ‘Sénéchaussée’, is a historic building constructed in 1595 within the city walls. Built by Jacques Gobin, this mansion has stood the test of time and has served various purposes, notably as a governor’s residence and a prison. Don’t miss a visit to the Fontaine des Quatre-Tias, the emblem and symbol of the town of Fontenay-le-Comte, built in 1542. Engraved on this monument is the town’s motto, coined by King François I: ‘Fontenay, a gushing spring of fine minds’. Guides will take you on a tour of these sites, which are rarely open to the public, and offer you a unique insight into daily life at the time of their construction. *************************** Meet at the Hôtel Gobin Saturday: guided tours from 10.00 to 12.00 and from 14.00 to 17.00 Sunday: guided tours from 10.00 to 12.00 and from 14.00 to 18.00 Duration: 30 mins Free
