Description
Concert organised by the Le Camembert association
Six highly active artists from the national jazz scene are breathing new life into a repertoire that is nearly a century old! Shades is a voice in the service of a legend: that of the Broadway musicals of the 1940s and 1950s, but also that of the songs which established the vocal artistry of Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Ella Fitzgerald. This journey through New York’s great musical avenues does not prevent the musicians of Shades from losing themselves, quite deliberately, in the sensuous meanderings of vocal improvisation.
It is a bit as if these side streets led straight to a 1930s Harlem jazz club, where the best of swing was created, sometimes fell apart but was tirelessly reinvented. This intense musical creativity was made possible only by a tremendous desire to play together and a determination to make a style their own whilst renewing the genre. This imagination and virtuosity still permeate the talent of the group Shades!
